Boiler Service FAQs

We hope you can find the answers to your questions below or call our friendly team on 020 8395 8616.

  • What are some common boiler issues that might call for urgent repair or service?
    • Odd Sounds: Hearing banging, whistling, or gurgling noises from your boiler can indicate air entrapment, pump malfunction, or worn parts. It’s essential to contact a boiler repair service in Crawley to investigate and resolve these internal problems.
    • Heat Distribution Issues: If you’re facing inconsistent temperatures or certain areas not heating up, it could signify a defective boiler. Issues might stem from a malfunctioning thermostat, trapped air, or debris buildup, necessitating professional boiler maintenance in Crawley.
    • Water Leaks: Spotting leaks or drips around your boiler suggests potential issues with pipes, valves, or the pump. Prompt boiler servicing in Crawley is crucial to prevent further damage and maintain the system’s integrity.
    • Varying Pressure Readings: Persistent abnormal pressure gauge readings require immediate attention. Low pressure impacts heating efficiency, while high pressure poses safety risks. Consult with Gas Safe registered engineers in Crawley for boiler repairs or maintenance.
    • Pilot Light Issues: A frequently extinguishing pilot light points to issues with the thermocouple, gas supply, or ventilation. Ignoring such signs can lead to a complete boiler shutdown. It’s advisable to seek emergency boiler repairs in Crawley to address and fix these problems efficiently.

If you’re encountering repetitive issues with an old boiler, it might be time to consider a new boiler installation.

  • What should I expect during a boiler service?

A boiler service involves an exhaustive inspection of your boiler, including identifying any potential issues or faults.

Upon arrival, certified engineers should display their Gas Safe ID as evidence of their expertise. They start with a preliminary safety inspection for any boiler fault or leaks, providing solutions when necessary.

The servicing includes examining boiler controls, heating, and hot water systems, ensuring they operate optimally. They will also check if there are any carbon monoxide emissions.

Finally, after completing all the necessary inspections and maintenance tasks, the engineer will provide you with a service report.

  • Is it really possible to increase the lifespan of my boiler?

    Yes, it is possible.

One way to extend your boiler’s lifespan is by regularly maintaining it. This involves cleaning out any obstructions and replacing any worn-out parts. By doing so, you can steer clear of potential issues from becoming major faults that could shorten your boiler’s lifespan.

Another important aspect of maintenance is having an annual Gas Safe registered service. This not only keeps your boiler running smoothly but also allows for any faults to be detected and addressed promptly.

Addressing these faults early on can significantly improve the overall lifespan of your boiler.

  • Who needs to get a Gas Safe certificate?

Regular maintenance is key to keeping your combi boiler running smoothly and avoiding the headache of a broken boiler. A critical aspect of maintenance is obtaining a Gas Safe certificate or CP12, which serves as proof that your gas appliances comply with regulations and are safe to use.

This document is obtained from an engineer after they have completed service on your gas boiler and is legally required for landlords in the UK. It is essential to have your boiler inspected and a Gas Safety Record updated every 12 months to ensure the continued safety and efficiency of your boiler and other gas appliances.

  • Do new boilers still need regular servicing?

Periodic maintenance is essential for the safe and efficient operation of your boiler. Whether you have recently installed a new combi boiler or have an older model, it is important to schedule regular check-ups.

In fact, if you have had a new boiler installed, getting it serviced within the first 12 months is recommended. This not only ensures that your warranty remains valid but it also helps prevent any potential serious issues from arising.

By staying on top of regular check-ups, any minor issues can be identified and addressed early on, preventing them from becoming major problems.

This will not only save you from expensive repairs in the long run but also make certain that your boiler continues to run smoothly and safely for many years to come.

  • What are some preliminary checks that I can do before calling for an emergency?

Any uncertainty should prompt involving a Gas Safe registered engineer, particularly for matters involving gas supply and the complexities of conventional boilers. Consider these preliminary checks:

    • Thermostat Assessment: Verify that the thermostat is properly set to request heating. A thermostat that doesn’t trigger heating as expected may need to be replaced.
    • Pressure Gauge Evaluation: Observe the pressure gauge to confirm that it reads within the suggested parameters. Deviations might necessitate adjustments as per the user manual’s instructions.
    • Air Purging from Radiators: Non-heating radiators might be laden with air. Purge this air through bleeding to enable efficient heating.
    • Inspection of Gas Flow: Ensure that the boiler’s gas inlet is active, and there are no interruptions. In the event of a gas odor or suspected leak, cut off the gas supply and promptly contact a Gas Safe registered engineer.
