Who is qualified to do a commercial boiler installation?
A commercial boiler installation must be performed by a commercial regiestered gas engineer. For gas-fired boilers, it’s legally mandatory to have a Gas Safe registered engineer with appropriate qualifications for the installation. In the case of LPG or Oil boilers, the engineer must hold relevant certifications, such as OFTEC certification. While it’s technically possible for an individual to install an electric boiler in their own, non-rented domestic property, it’s generally advised against for safety reasons. Additionally, if you intend to sell or rent the property, the boiler may need reinstallation by a qualified engineer.
Do I need to book a commercial boiler installation appointment?
Yes, to give you a quote its a must as properly planned commercial boiler installations are essentially halfway to completion. Here are the critical steps we consider essential for every boiler installation project.
Initial Assessment:
The first step involves the heating engineer determining the required output of the plant rooms/boilers for your commercial heating system. For direct replacements, we often match or slightly increase the output compared to the existing units. In other cases, we calculate the heat loss taking into account any hot water system or plate heat exchangers, or by summing up the output of all heat emitters and adding a buffer for pipework losses then select most most efficient boiler for your needs.
Gas Supply Evaluation:
Next, we examine the natural gas supply, ensuring the meter and pipework are adequately sized to meet the new boilers’ demand while maintaining the correct gas pressure, considering the pipework’s length.
Installation Feasibility:
We then assess the installation’s feasibility, including flue routing options, condensate waste drainage, space availability, access for boiler delivery, connectivity to existing heating pipes, and whether a plate heat exchanger is needed to integrate the new boilers. We also consider the need for new controls, a pressurisation unit, expansion vessel, and any required improvements to the plant room’s
With these considerations addressed, we draft a preliminary work program, including changeovers to minimise downtime. A risk assessment and method statement are prepared to guide the installation team, outlining the plan and highlighting risk mitigation strategies. This phase also includes ordering the new boilers and all necessary materials, which may be staged or stored off-site if space is limited.
Implementation:
The process begins with safely isolating and removing the old equipment. Once the area is prepped, we install the new boiler, connect it to the existing system, and install the flue, possibly requiring scaffolding. Electrical connections and control system integrations follow.
Finishing Touches:
The project concludes with insulation of pipework, plant room painting, and sealing any new openings. The boiler is then commissioned, including flue gas analysis and adjustments to meet safety standards.
Documentation:
The final step involves completing all necessary paperwork for the gas safety certification and warranty registration, ensuring your new boiler system is fully operational and compliant.
This comprehensive approach ensures a seamless transition to your new boiler system, designed for efficiency, compliance, and long-term reliability.
